2004 Stonehorse GSM

A blend of Grenache (58%), Shiraz (34%) and Mourvedre (8%).

Although this is a biggish wine by alcohol standards it is still savoury and medium weight by our standards. Grenache contributes soft aromatics and flavours, Shiraz some palate spine and a bit of spice, and the Mourvedre provides breadth and depth.

A wine to enjoy now or age over the next 5 years.

No fining or filtration to this elegant, yet powerful wine prior to bottling. This wine is a blend of 14 different vineyards and 27 different ferments.

Plums, blueberry and blackberry flavours on the palate. Sweet vanillin oak lift against a spice backdrop. Old fashioned mouthfeel with glycerol and baked black fruits.

2007 Old Vine Semillon

It will be interesting to see how the 2007 harvest will be remembered. It was a tough year for red ‘cepage’, but at Kaesler whites where an early reward, in what, without doubt will be the lowest yielding vintage (hopefully) in a long time.

The vines, although it was a drought seemed to manage the conditions well. All of our recycled winery wash down water was returned to our Semillon vines and even still they managed to yield a meagre, by Semillon standards 2.35 tonnes to the acres. Not enough to pay the bills, but the upside was the making of tone of the best and most complete Semillons we have mad since we started in 1999.

Green melon, lychee and a touch of ginger. I have never seen these qualities in Barossa Semillon before

2007 Old Vine Riesling

Historically Riesling has always had a pride of place in the Barossa, primarily due to our Silesian heritage. The other reason is still here after these years is that it works well. We pick our Riesling ripe with as much flavour as we could forsee.

Limes and lemons, stonefruits such as nectarines and apricots. Being Riesling and a fuller style, get it as cold as you can, and don’t worry about being to cold, you’ll be on the patio, reclining in the Banana lounge, flicking from the tennis to the cricket!

2007 Late Harvest

Over the past few years we have tended to make a late harvest wine from our Semillon. However in 2007 we decided to utilise our Riesling instead, and this has made a wine that enjoys all those wonderful ripe, full flavoured Riesling characters that seem to suit a late harvest style of wine.

Enjoy this wine with food such as fresh fruit and cheese, dessert or serve it really cold as a refreshing aperitif on a hot day

2007 Viognier

Our Viognier shows a creamy and full flavoured mouthfeel. It is a powerful wine that is ideal with food - serve it well chilled and try it with cheese, fresh fruit or veal dishes.

2006 Old Vine Shiraz

The 2006 Old Vine Shiraz is a blend of 4 parcels of 45 yeard old Shiraz fruit sourced from Kaesler vineyards.

Old Vine Shiraz is a wine that will never be overtly fruity. It is best suited to those who prefer a savoury style. We are very happy with this wine and it will be fascinating watching this one age, it should go the distance.

2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

At Kaesler we have 3 Cabernet Vineyards; two on the original Kaesler farm, and one from Barrington’s, over the main road from Kaesler. Barrington’s was purchased in 2003.

The soil type on all sites is red brown loam over clay and then over limestone rubble - perfectly suited to growing Cabernet. Old fashioned in style. Firm tannin, dark berries on the palate, intense with a long finish.

2006 Avignon

The “Avignon” is a style of red wine composed of Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro (Mourvedre). The Grenache and Mataro vines are 70 years old and the Shiraz comes from vineyards 40 and 105 year’s old. It is a style that is designed to be savoury and compliment food.

The most pure Avignon to date. Almost a waste to drink it young, it will expand and develop over the next 10 years
