2006 WOMS

64% Shiraz, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Shiraz fruit sourced from the Kaesler vineyard planted in 1961 and the Cabernet vineyard planted in 1985. Matured in French oak for 18 months.

Black cherries, vanilla, some saddle leather characters on the palate. This is the third release of the WOMS - Weapon of Mass Seduction. The first vintage we made was in 2002, 2004 and now the release of the 2006 - and judging by Reid's advice to staff to grab some of this wine before it all goes, probably one of his best.

2006 The Fave

The Fave was blended with the emphasis on an extreme style of wine.

This is a single vineyard wine from the vineyard by the name “The Fave”. It is  a big wine, so if you’re sensitive be afraid. It will benefit from some time spent in the bottle, very young upon release in December 2007.

Age of vines: Estate plantings established in the 1930’s

Rhubarb and plums, spicy notes/aniseed characters. Firm and dry all the way through, high glycerol and alcohol, barely cuts through the savoury tannin. Dark plums and cherry notes. Finishes with typical Kaesler vineyards, grainy tannin qualities and earthy flavours

2007 Old Bastard

Single vineyard wine made from fruit sourced from our 1893 block of Shiraz, yielding less than 2 tonne to the acre, hand pruned and picked.

The rainfall during the growing season wasn’t that huge but it fell at the right time. It’s a pleasure to write about harvest 2006, things were normal then. Budburst was reliable, the crop set, we all had Christmas, then we came back to work, prepared for the ensuing vintage then made some nice wine during an orderly harvest.

Once opened, and when it’s young, this wine exhibits soy sauce, vegemite, mandarin rind and flowers. After a few hours with air, and more suggestive of its future, it leans slowly towards dark chocolate embedded with black ripe yet still sour cherries. After 5 hours or more, small berried fruit, black and red start streaming though, vanilla lift adds a nice topping and ethereal afterglow.
